"I still remember my first grade teacher." Don't you? At KCS, our teachers provide a loving, nurturing environment in the first grade classrooms. For many children, it is the first time they:
- Experience a full day of school.
- Eat lunch in a cafeteria.
- Go without a nap during the day.
Because this can be a difficult transition, we make every effort to ensure your child experiences a fun and productive learning day. Everyday is a celebration in first grade! From Johnny Appleseed Day in the fall to their 100th day of school and ending the year with Field Day, students learn to find joy in every single day God has given them.
We continue to build on the strong phonics foundation which began in reading class during kindergarten and build new experiences into their daily learning with special science and social studies projects. These include a cooperative yearlong unit with the Avon Fire Department and a visit to the Indianapolis Zoo.
